OHLALA TOOK THE AUDI Q3 40 TFSI SPORTBACK S LINE, A COMPACT SUV, OUT FOR A DAY TO EXPERIENCE HOW AUDI BLENDS REFINEMENT, PERFORMANCE AND MODERN LUXURY IN COMPACT FORM.

The Audi Q3 40 TFSI Sportback S line arrived looking polished, poised and pleased with itself. After inspecting and driving it, we understood why. This was not simply a compact SUV with a sloping roofline; it felt like Audi had taken a practical everyday companion and sent it for a styling appointment.

To us, the appeal was immediate. The Q3 Sportback offered premium design, confident performance and genuine usability in a package compact enough for city life yet perfectly suited for dressed-up evenings out.

ATHLETIC ELEGANCE

From the outside, the Q3 Sportback S line had an athletic presence. Its coupé-inspired roofline sat 29mm lower than the SUV version, giving it a sleeker profile while preserving the stance and visibility expected from a compact SUV. The proportions worked well, with strong shoulders, clean surfacing and a wide Audi Singleframe grille.

The S line exterior added sharper bumpers and a full paint finish, while the 19-inch Audi Sport wheels in gloss black brought a sportier edge. Red brake callipers added just enough theatre to hint that the Q3 Sportback had a more playful side waiting beneath its carefully tailored exterior. The digital Matrix LED headlights gave the front a crisp expression, while the illuminated Audi rings at the rear added an after-dark signature.

CRAFTED FOR COMFORT

Inside, the Q3 Sportback felt calm, contemporary and thoughtfully arranged. Audi’s clean cabin layout created an immediate sense of space, helped by the removal of the traditional centre-console gear selector. Instead, gear selection moved to the steering column, freeing up space for storage, cup holders and a neater design.

The black sport seats in leather and artificial leather offered superb support, with electric adjustment and four-way lumbar support helping us settle in quickly. Front seat heating and three-zone deluxe automatic air conditioning added comfort, while the panoramic sunroof lifted the atmosphere.

The ambient lighting package plus allowed the cabin mood to be personalised, which we enjoyed far more than we should have. Choosing from 30 colours felt less like adjusting a setting and more like curating the mood for the evening. Relaxed and understated? Quietly glamorous? Mildly late but still fabulous?

Useful rear seating and luggage space also reminded us that this remained a proper everyday SUV.

TECH WITH TASTE

Technology was one of the Q3’s strongest areas. The Audi virtual cockpit plus and the 12.8-inch MMI touch display combined to create a sleek, driver-focussed digital stage. The interface felt logical and sharp, while the MMI experience plus and navigation helped make the system feel premium.

Smartphone interface, USB charging ports in both rows and the inductive phone compartment made daily connectivity easy. The SONOS premium sound system delivered rich audio through 12 speakers and 420 watts of power, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a private concert.

The head-up display, digital Matrix LED lighting and projection lights in the exterior mirrors added to the high-tech feel.

PERFORMANCE WITH POLISH

The Q3 40 TFSI Sportback S line uses a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 204hp, paired with quattro all-wheel drive. On the road, that meant smooth, confident performance with enough urgency to make overtaking feel easy.

The seven-speed S tronic gearbox shifted cleanly, while quattro traction gave the car a reassuring sense of grip. It felt suited to Middle Eastern driving, where city traffic, fast highways and sudden lane changes can all come up in the same afternoon.

The suspension with damper control balanced comfort with agility. In everyday driving, the Q3 felt refined and settled. When the pace increased, progressive steering and Audi drive select helped it feel more alert. It was sporty enough to entertain, yet civilised enough not to make coffee on the go feel like a risky decision.

SOPHISTICATED SUPPORT

The Q3 Sportback S line came generously equipped with driver assistance and safety systems. Adaptive cruise control, adaptive cruise assist plus with emergency assist, front emergency brake assist, side assist with exit warning and rear cross-traffic assist all contributed to a reassuring drive.

Parking was made easier with Park Assist Plus, a 360-degree display, and trained parking and surround-view cameras. In busy urban spaces, this was welcome. The car seemed capable of handling situations that could have otherwise resulted in a carefully rehearsed explanation to the dealership.

Driver attention and fatigue monitoring, proactive occupant protection, multiple airbags and hill hold assist further strengthened the safety package.
